WALKING GRADES

 

1. Easy, flat walk at gentle pace on hard surfaces.

 

2. Steady pace, some gentle slopes and uneven terrain.

 

3. Slightly longer including inclines and variable conditions

 

4. Long walks with inclines and variable conditions.

Hainault Forest Country Park

First car park, by refreshment kiosk. Romford Road entrance.

 

Seven Kings Park

Bandstand, entrance off Aldborough Rd. South.

 

South Park

Car park adjacent to tennis courts, entrance at junction of South Park Cres. and South Park Rd.

 

Valentines Park  Cafe,  Cranbrook Road entrance, Ilford.

 

Wanstead Park  Inside the entrance at Warren Road Wanstead.

WALKING INFORMATION

  • Arrive at meeting point 10 minutes prior to start of walk.

  • Wear comfortable clothing appropriate for weather conditions, and flat shoes or boots, which will support your feet.

  • Bring any medication you may need (if applicable).

  • On arrival a short registration form and health questionnaire (Par-Q) will have to be completed.

  • Please note, unfortunately neither unaccompanied children or dogs are permitted on the walks, with the exception of guide dogs.

  • If you are interested in leading walks, we are continuously looking for volunteers to get involved with this project.

  • These walks are for you; we value your comments and suggestions.

Longer WEDNESDAY Walks

 

 

Culture Sport & Community Learning - Redbridge Walk to Health Healthy Lifestyles Programme-  Longer Wednesday Monthly Walks Timetable:

 

The following walks are run for members of the group who have requested longer walks held at different venues. If you would like to walk further than our twice weekly Monday & Thursday sessions, the following walks are especially for you! 

All Walks start at 10.00 a.m.

 

 

22 APRIL 2009 – LORD'S BUSHES, KNIGHTON WOOD & RIVER RODING – Meeting point Roding Valley Central Line Station. (Frequent trains from Hainault or Woodford. Park cars in Station road.) Walk on Riverside & Woodland tracks. Grade 3. 3 miles, allow 2 hours.

 

13  MAY 2009– CLAYBURY WOODS - Meeting point - Entrance in Tomswood Hill opp. Wannock Gdns. (Bus 275 from Woodford or Barkingside. Park cars in Tomswood Hill). Walk on surfaced paths and Woodland tracks. Grade 3. 2.5 miles allow 2 hours.

 

24 JUNE 2009 – HAINAULT FOREST to HAVERING PARK FARM –Meeting point - Lay by opposite Chigwell Row Church, Romford Rd. (Bus 150. Park in lay-by) Walk on unsurfaced paths across Ancient woodland. Grade 3. 3 miles allow 2 hours.

 

15 JULY 2009 – SNARESBROOK FOREST- SOUTH GILBERT SLADE VIA. HOLLOW POND – Meeting point - Beacontree Avenue, Forest Road, Walthamstow. Near Waterworks roundabout/cattle bridge. (Bus 123.Bus 20 stops nearby. Park cars in Beacontree Ave.) Woodland Walk on unsurfaced paths. Grade 3. 3 miles allow 2 hours.

 

26 AUGUST 2009 – LAMBOURNE CHURCH – Meeting point 1st car park Hainault Forest Country Park. Bus 247 or 362. Walk on Woodland and Farm footpaths and bridleways. Grade 4 .5 miles allow 3 hours.

  

16 SEPTEMBER 2009 – FOOTPATHS TO HAVERING PARK- Meeting point - 1st Car Park Hainault Forest Country Park. Bus 247 or 362 to main entrance in Romford Rd. A long hilly walk on tracks through Woodland, Farmland and Golf Course. Grade 4. 5 miles allow 3 hours.

 

14 OCTOBER 2009 RODING VALLEY & RAY PARK – Meeting Point – Tesco's car park at Charlie Browns roundabout, South Woodford. Buses 123 or 179 from Ilford. A flat walk on surfaced paths and tracks. Grade 3. 3 miles allow 2 hours. 

 

18 NOVEMBER 2009 – FAIRLOP PLAIN – Meeting point - Car park at Fullwell Cross roundabout, Barkingside. Buses 150,167,169,247,275,362,462. A flat walk on unsurfaced footpaths. Grade 3. 3 miles. Allow 2 hours.

 

16 DECEMBER 2009 – WINTER SOLSTICE, HAINAULT FOREST COUNTRY PARK-Meeting point - 1st Car Park. Buses 247 or 362. Hilly walk on unsurfaced paths through woodland. Grade 3. 3 miles allow 2 hours. 

Tea Coffee and mince pies will be served after this walk.
